Russian power to Pussy Riot!

As expected, it was known today the sentence of the three members of the punk rock band “Pussy Riot” that were in prison. And as expected they were found guilty and sentenced to two years in jail (see link above). Well, this sentence was obvious influenced by Vladimir Putin in an attempt to make, all those who are against the russian political regime, to sleep and lost  power. But, he make a great mistake by thinking that political opposition and true russian democrats will stop gathering and protest against it. The objective of Putin was to make, the Pussy Riot  lost political force but the result, most probably will be the inverse. It was a attempt of punish the girls without be very badly regarded by international community. But the protest of the Pussy Riot was so efficient and all that followed with the arrest of three members, helped so much their cause, that no one can’t ignore them and in Russia Pussy Riot become a symbol of freedom and democracy.
More specifically about the sentence, it was better than expected (they risked seven years in jail) but it was a sentence with no sense because they were condemned for religions motivations when their protest was a political one. This proves on one side, that, the political power didn’t got nothing to punish them and on other side the growing influence of orthodox russian church on political matters. In fact, Putin saw on the church a possible ally and so begun to approach her to gain more votes, for example. That’s why they protested in a church: to show the connexion between politics and religion in Russia and because their protest would not have the same force if made on other place.
In the end, two years is still much for a protest what clearly shows that we are far from a democracy in Russia. This was a evidence that more and more, the russian political system suffocates his adversaries, don’t let people express their thoughts on a free way. Even yesterday the opposition leader Gary Kasparov was arrested outside the Court.
But the example of Pussy Riot is not dead and it will be followed more and more until democrats conquer again power in Russia.
